Scholastic as set up their annual Book Fair in our hall for students to come in a buy. On Monday each class got half an hour and little wish list to go around and write down all the titles they were interested. There were some great books for students to choose from.
At 12:15 each day Room 3 (Year 3/4) come to Room 1 (Year 7/8) to buddy read together. On Monday Room 1 read picture books to Room 3, asking them questions and talking about what they had just heard. One Tuesday Room 3 read to Room 1. This will continue for the rest of the week, each class getting a turn at reading to one another. It is amazing seeing the Tuakana-Teina relationship between the older students and the younger students.
After Lunch each teacher moves around the school reading to other classes. It is awesome as an intermediate teacher to have the opportunity to go and read the younger students.
Book Week is all about encouraging reading and exposing kids to different literature throughout the week. We have been looking at different text types and ways we can make reading exciting.
