As teachers what knowledge, skills and dispositions do we need in our classroom?
List them in order of important, very important and most important.
Most important:
Know your students, manaakitanga, values/virtues.
Very important:
Open minded, be your students champion, ability to turn a negative to a positive, be authentic, enthusiasm for what you teach, create a safe zone, know what you are teaching, know your curriculum.
Important:
Organised, let your students wonder, be the prettiest thing your class see, make connections, get excited, be vibrant, be courteous, humour, creativity.

"Having faith" - Believing in students

Teaching Ideas:
Allow your class to plan their week "we need to have 4 writing, 4 reading and 4 math lessons, how are we going to do this?". Give the students ownership.
Silent drawing transition activity - teacher has put a shape or line in a box that represents the paper (ratios and proportions) on the board and students have to draw something. The class judge it (girl chooses a boy vice versa), criteria = has to be something no one else has drawn (think outside the box) there is a prize and then it goes up on the wall.

Understanding and being able to include the wider cultures and Community for students in your class (sporting, classroom, community and school culture)
How you run your reading program, choose your writing topics, class contexts.
It's not the different cultures in your classroom, it is creating an overall awareness of the individual student and the group.
Know the student!
Every student brings something to your classroom.
Each students voice is important.
Enrich the learning of others through who you are and what you bring.
Respond to the need of the students in a cultural way - pedagogical (learning styles, multiple intelligence test, collaboration)
